During the day I worked as usually, I had lunch with my husband and I was told that dinner was a surprise.
When I arrived home the birthday cake was already there and dinner was what we call “leitão” (small pork meat) which is one of my favorite foods.
The big surprise come after dinner when I received my birthday present: a Sony Ericsson W200i. For someone that had an old Trium, black and white this was the perfect gift. Now I can take pictures and make movies to put on my blogs.
There was no big party, just the four of us, a quiet evening as I like.

Today the day started with a lot of kisses from my DH and my dear son and dear daughter. Yes, it’s my birthday today - 39 years old.
39 is not a special number, it only means I’m closer to the 40’s and than, instead of a 3 I will have a 4 starting my age.
At the age of 39 I realize I’m more aware of what is going on around me, I’m wiser and my head is overloaded with information. The youngest people I know already request me advice regarding life, raising kids, and I feel that age brings us a huge know-how.
I’m aware that age is arriving too fast, many things are being left undone, many resolutions were not accomplished yet and I feel I’m kind of running out of time to do certain things.
I never thought I would reach 39 with life as it is, and I mean, not only my personal life but life in general, the country. I thought the country would grow faster and living conditions would improve but I was wrong, life is getting tough.
I know life should be lived one day at a time but sometimes it’s difficult not to look back to the things we wanted and that were not accomplished. I still believe that, one day, I might me able to accomplish them.

Usually I cut my hair once or twice a year. I don’t have the patience nor the money to go to the hairdresser frequently.
Since October 07 that I hadn’t had an Haircut so yesterday it was the day, I had a totally different haircut. My co-workers, my son and daughter and my DH were amazed and said I looked like a different person, more beautiful and young. What can I say…I was totally flattered and happy with the compliments.
It’s amazing the impact a new look can have in our lives, it seems people look at us in a different way. Now I need to buy new clothes to match the look.

When I went to school yesterday I spoke with his teacher and asked her what she had to say about him.
She told me what I already knew: He’s a very intelligent boy that gets distracted very easily therefore his grades are not as good as they were supposed to be. The teacher says it’s unbelievable how he is not still and is always ready to play or join a “out of subject” conversation. He also distracts himself with every sound and conversation there is in the classroom, it seems he has a satellite disk on his ears.
When I went to Catherine school I also asked her teacher about her and the answer was the same she gave me a few months ago: Catherine is amazing at school, she’s very advanced for her age and if she continues like this the teacher says when she is 5 she will probably start writing and reading. Regarding her behavior she is a little childish and always begging for attention, but it is understandable once she is the youngest at that school.
So I have two intelligent kids, and I’m very proud. I just wish my son could concentrate more, I’m working on that.

Dani was really happy when I arrived at school to pick him up. We both then headed to Catherine school to pick her up. I can’t express in words her facial expression when she saw me. She was SOOOOOO happy, dancing, hugging me, it was one of those moments we can’t take a picture of.
The afternoon, as I expected, was a little busy. They wanted to do everything on the same afternoon because they knew this day won’t repeat soon.
We went out to shop for a pair of tennis for Dani and I ended up also buying a shoes for me (first shoes in two years), it’s a birthday present in advance for me.
Catherine is sleeping in the couch, Dani and Dad are watching the movie: The National Treasure - The book of Secrets, I’m blogging, chatting on MSN and glimpsing at the movie.

Yesterday it was a public holiday in our country, today I took the day off.
I took the kids to school and I already did some important shopping: nail polish. Believe it or not I’m a chronic nail biter BUT I stopped biting my nails a few weeks ago and now I have “some” nails that need some polish. I’m not used to polish my nails but today I bought a brown and a dark red bottle. I’ll be trying them later.
Being a full time worker I’m not used to be alone at home so I can’t stand being all day at home without my kids on a day off. Today it’s going to be surprise day!!
For quite some time my daughter has been asking me to pick her up at school, as I’m always working, I can’t. So today after lunch I’m going to show up at preschool to pick her up and even stay a little with her in class. She’s going to be thrilled when she sees me.
The original plan was to pick her up at school and later pick up my son, but…I can’t wait and I will also pick up my son at lunch time from school. Today most of the kids are not attending school because a lot of parents don’t work so the teacher doesn’t mind of him leaving earlier.
So, they know there will be a surprise today but they don’t know who will be doing it or what it will be. I know I won’t rest with them at home, but I’m happy to have them around, specially when I’m supposed to be working.

Some weeks ago I wrote about my son’s cell phone and my doubts about he having one at the age of 9. I must say I had a bad experience with that cell phone.
First he started calling me to the office 4-6 times a day, although I advised him not to he continued doing so with the excuse that he had important things to tell me or that he just wanted t say Hi.
Almost 4 weeks ago the cell phone had a malfunction and had to go to Nokia to be fixed, quiet and peace returned as well as not so good grades. I now think the cell phone and all the fuss around it caused my son to get distracted and losing his concentration on his school work.
I’m very sad and I regret I did not follow him more closely in school.
Who follows this blog for some time knows that I am a full time worker, I leave home at 8.30am and arrive at 7pm or 8.15pm when my son has soccer classes. He attends a daycare after school where he does all his homeworks so that at night he doesn’t have to do them when he is supposed to be in bed, resting. Usually I don’t worry because I know all the homework is done in daycare and daycare also provides extra works for them to practice what they have learned.
He’s having his 4th teacher this year (3rd grade) due to some factors like teacher retirement, another teacher maternity leave, another teacher medical leave, etc etc. This year was like a roller coaster of teachers and that also affected the students one more than the others. He also started soccer classes in the end of February, another distracting situation maybe.
My son is very active, distracted and talks a lot in class. I’m sure the cell phone contributed to the lack of attention, not only in class but generally. Daycare director told me he’s much calmer since he hasn’t the cell phone.
Today I bought a test book with all the subjects he has in class for him to do some work at home. He’s having his final tests for this year in 2 or 3 weeks and I told him I want him to improve his grades. Daycare director told me not to worry, that this is just a phase, that he is an intelligent boy and he’s going to improve the grades.
One thing I’m sure, he will not get the cell phone back till the end of the school year, and when school starts in September I won’t let him use the cell phone.

Aunt #4 died this morning.
She’s my father’s sister and mother of my dear cousin E. My cousin called me this morning to give me the news. Although very disturbed, she understands that her mother was suffering a lot and that this was better than suffering a few more days. The funeral will be tomorrow.
Rest in Peace Aunt Q.
